Buck Deer Cannock Chase

As we are approaching the rutting season, I thought I would take the opportunity to go out with the camera and see if I could get a few shots of the
bucks as they get ready for the coming mating season.

Fortunately, I was lucky, and managed to find them.

Lurve Handle Band Photos Nov 2010

This is a small gallery of a photo shoot of a local band who headlined the switching on of the town’s Christmas lights. There’s something great about band photography that I like doing. I think it’s being a former drummer and fan of music that’s the attraction. Having a musical background helps in knowing which instrument is going to be the focal point in each phase of a song.

Prince Harry steps in for the Queen

Sunday’s Queen’s Cup  polo tournament turned into a major photographic challenge as the unrelenting rains and winds, pounding both players and spectators alike. I managed to get a few shots, but only with the 28 mm – 300 mm however, I have to say I am very pleased given the conditions.

For you photographers out there, the ISO setting was 1600 and the action shots the same ISO taken at 1/1000 second to freeze the action.

I managed to get some candid shots of Prince Harry too as he presented the winning cup on behalf of his grandmother the Queen.

Right, I’m off to continue drying out from yesterday’s appalling weather!

Photographing the Queen’s Cup Polo Today!

Well it’s that day in June again. Today, I’m off once more (my tenth year) to photograph the Queen’s Cup final at Simth’s Lawn in Windsor today, attended by the Queen, and hopefully the Duke of Endingburh before heads off to his ninetieth birthday party this evening at Buck House.

Today’s camera gear -  I will be armed with two camera bodies, one with new Nikon 28 mm – 300 mm for the informal shots, and the major 400 mm lens on the second body for all of the polo action.

Last year’s photographs can be viewed here – Queen’s cup polo final 2010

Photos to follow later – weather permitting of course!

Pen Swan & Signets

This gallery of a Pen and her signets was shot on the 4th June 2011. I was incredibly lucky to get these shots as they tend to be incredibly nervous,  defensive and feisty.  Both mother and little ones were more than happy for me photograph them, whilst they were feeding. There’s no way she or these young ones would have fed if I had been a threat to them.Distance and respect are the most important attributes in nature photography.
